Sale-A-Bration 2013 Jewellery Making 101

Before I start I have to warn you I am no jewellery maker, in fact this was my 1st attempt ever at making jewellery.

I was looking at the Soda Pop Caps that are available in the Seasonal Catalogue ( February 1st, 2013) & was thinking now what am I going to do with those!  I googled them & saw that you could make jewellery out of them so figured, why not give it a go?

The Soda Pop Tops come in two sizes so this was perfect for what I was about to do.    I squashed them in my big shot with the platform on tab 1, & sandwiched them between two old cutting plates.  I placed mine flat side down, but it works both ways.  I wanted to make a Sale-A-Bration version so used the Sycamore Street DSP as my background.   Now, my 1st attempt didn't work so well.  I used the butterfly out of the Lovely Little labels set & also the matching Little Labels punch then used Crystal Effects to set it all in place.  The ink bled but it still looked cute!

After that disaster I decided to heat emboss the picture which helped a little when the Crystal Effects goes on.  Here is my 2nd attempt.  This time I used the owl from the new Itty Bitties stamp set (Available February 1st).  To anyone who has put their set together I want to congratulate you - the stamps in this set are seriously small!  For the purpose of making this jewellery the smaller the stamp image the better though.

Soda Pop Top Jewellery Set
Once again I have to re-iterate I am no jewellery maker and this was my 1st attempt ever at making anything jewellery related.  It was not that hard as long as you buy some links (also know as Jump Rings) to attach your necklace/earrings to the Soda pop top.  I got mine at Spotlight in a bag of 20 for $2.  The earrings were in a bag of 10 for $2.85 & the necklace I made from twine & the Sycamore Street Tagerine Tango Ribbon (Free during Sale-A-Bration).   To make the hole in the Soda Pop Tops I punched the edge after I squashed them by using the 1/16" Circle handheld punch.  It punches through the metal easily.  The final step is to cover the image in the Pop Top with Crystal Effects.  I filled mine to the top.  Leave for 24hrs at least to dry.  Attach Jewellery items.  These would make nice charms or even scrapbook embellishments too.

And here is my daughter wearing the set.....She loved them & if you look closely I even made a ring to match.

Then I thought....hmmmm those Designer Builder Brads in the Seasonal Catalogue also look kind of like jewellery.  SO, I had a go at making a set with those too!  The circle in these is so small I just added the Sycamore Street DSP but they look really nice don't you think?

Jewellery Set made from Designer Build a Brads (seasonal catalogue)
I made a matching ring using the Designer Builder Brads as well.  As long as you remove the brad prongs from the back, these sit nice & flat on a ring base.

I hope you don't mind just a little interruption to my Sale-A-Bration Countdown posts but .....

Sale-A-Bration 2013 Countdown Week 2: Patterned Occasions Gift Card Holder

How cute is that little elephant! He is certainly my favourite stamp in the Patterned Occasions stamp set on offer during Sale-a-bration 2013.  I use a lot of gift cards and thought this stamp would lend itself quite nicely for this purpose.  The Leadership boards had so many ideas & this card is based on one I saw in a photo of those recently.

Sale-A-Bration 2013 Patterned Occasions Gift Card Holder

The Sycamore Street DSP has a Pool Party swirl pattern that looks just like clouds.  I added a little itty bitty punch flower to the image & a tiny pearl.

Inside the gift card holder

The inside was punched using the word window punch and stamped with the little flower from the Madison Avenue stamp set also available during sale-a-bration.  The "Thanks" sentiment is from the Sale-a-bration stamp set  Vintage Verses.

Stamp Sets:  Patterned Occasions, Vintage Verses & Madison Avenue ( Sale-A-Bration)

Sale-A-Bration 2013 Countdown Week 2: Feeling Sentimental Card

While I had my things out making last weeks Morning Post card I though I would create another in the same way. Same, same but different lol.  The Feeling Sentimental stamp in all it's vintage loveliness does not need much embellishment so I have kept this card fairly simple - like me ;)

I spritzed the Naturals Ivory cardstock with a Chocolate Chip & Riding Hood Red Marker.  Then I stamped the lovely vintage penny farthing image from the Feeling Sentimental stamp set (available during Sale-A-Bration only) in Riding Hood Red.  I layered this onto Crumb Cake cardstock then some Fan Fair DSP that was sanded around the edges. All this was then mounted onto a Riding Hood Red card base.   I had a few left overs from the Morning Post card from last week so added those.  A Postage Stamp Punch & a Petite Curly Label punch from the Pretty Petites stamp set.

Sale-A-Bration 2013 Countdown: Week 1 - Madison Avenue Card

I have been lucky enough to meet some friendly & very creative ladies as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, not just team members, or customers but also long distance blog visitors & demonstrators as well.   As a demonstrator we have access to the Stampin' Connection forum that enables us to talk and share ideas with other demonstrators all over the world.  I met Lisa from Michigan, USA recently on Stampin' Connection.   Her recent blog post using the Madison Avenue stamp set (click her name above to see her card) from Sale-A-Bration 2013 has inspired me to get my own set out and try to create something worthy of your eyes.

I must say I have found this stamp set a bit of a challenge & have looked at it sheepishly of late, often pushing it to the side in favour of all the other sets on offer during saleabration.  Today, after creating not one, but 20 of these cards, we have become good friends this Madison Avenue stamp set & I.

I did find it hard to photograph this card.  The colour I used on the base is actually Summer Starfruit, however in these photos it is coming up a mustard looking colour.

Stamp Sets:  Madison Avenue(Sale-A-Bration).
Paper:  Naturals Ivory Cardstock, Summer Starfruit, Pool Party, Sycamore Street DSP.
Ink: Summer Starfruit, Rich Razzleberry, Pool Party.
Cool Tools: Pool Party Sycamore Street Ribbon ( Sale-A-Bration), Fancy Fan embossing folder.

Sale-A-Bration 2013 Countdown: Week 1 - Petite Curly Label Vintage Card

This week I am focussing on the Petite Curly Label punch & the matching stamp set Pretty Petites from the Sale-A-Bration catalogue due to be released January 22nd, 2013.

I have challenged myself to use some stamp sets that are gathering dust on my shelf.  I loved the Morning Post stamp set in the annual catalogue straight away and had to have it.  But it has sat on my shelf for 5 months without ever being used.   :(

Today I wanted to show you how you can combine the Morning Post stamp set with the Pretty Petite set to get a vintage look.  I love the vintage look but don't often go there as my style is more clean & simple, but every now & then it is good to step out of your comfort zone and do something different.   I even dragged out my neglected spritzer too!

Morning Post & 2013 Sale-A-Bration Pretty Petites Card

Stamp Sets:  Pretty Petites (Sale-A-Bration), Morning Post.
Paper:  Naturals Ivory Cardstock, Riding Hood Red, Crumb Cake, Fan Fair DSP.
